ARE YOU THINKING OF RE-HOMING A DOG

Re-homing a dog can be an extremely challenging but very rewarding experience for both you and the dog and we would like to ensure you know and understand the commitment you are about to make.  Some dogs have had a traumatic past and require lots of love, care, patience, and time to adjust to their new loving homes.

SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE YOU ADOPT A DOG:

  • What changes will we need to make to our current lifestyle in order to welcome a pet to our family?

  • Can we afford the food, vet fees, and pet insurance?

  • Remember this is a long-term commitment and it is worth taking your time to find the right pet for you.

  • Who will look after the pet while we are on holiday?

  • A new pet needs company – do we have the time to spend with them and look after them?

  • What effect will the new pet have on our lives?

  • Is it really fair to take on a dog and then leave him alone for long periods?

  • If you have children and other animals, you must consider how they will react to a new animal in the house.

  • Dogs need to be walked at least twice a day, whatever the weather. Are we happy to do this?

  • Do remember that every new pet will take several weeks to settle into their new home

  • Dogs can develop problems such as separation anxiety in a new environment and can also go backward with house train

if you are interested in re-homing a dog, please complete our adoption

and submit it to us along with your contact details and a bit about yourself, for example, what breed of dog you are looking for, male or female, age of dog you would be willing to re-home, where about in the UK are you located. Once we receive this we shall add you to our dog waiting list and when a dog becomes available we shall be in touch with you.

You may know of a dog that is looking for a new home. Also please get in touch with some details.

Whether you are ready to take up a challenge or not, please visit our fundraising page by clicking on the picture below, sign up for free, and help us to continue with the good work we do with the animals that we receive at Edinburgh Samoyed Rescue.
